Coding tables can be useful when trying to do comparison of data, or if you want to represent data in a comprehensive manner. However, tables should NEVER be used for formatting as they are too rigid and may run into problems when designing your website.

US university website comparisons:

Chose University of Alaska (UA), University of Alabama(UOA), University of Advancing technology(UAT).

In Common:

·         mainly used only two colours e.g, blue and white (UA), white and green (UOA), white and red (UAT).

·         Initially see large images of college students doing various activities – studying, sports etc.

·         Have information about ongoing/ upcoming events on the first page.

·         All of the university logos are located at the top left page of the websites – English is read from right to left; therefore, it is the first thing a person reads when traversing the website.

Irish university website comparisons:

Chose universities for comparison University of Limerick (UOL), University College Dublin (UCD), and University College Cork (UCC).

·         All of the websites have whitespace containing the logo of the university in the top left of the page.

·         All search bars/ menu/ quick links located without scrolling – lie at the top or near the top of the web-page.

·         All of the websites contain large, eye-catching images at the top, showing the college/ students.

·         Use white background predominantly with occasional blocks of colour (or pictures) to show different sections of webpage.

Neomorphism

Designs which are minimalistic but also look realistic (i.e., aren’t flat, look like buttons). Have shading that helps to create that illusion.

Can see the subtle contract between the “buttons” and the background. Google and apple use neomorphism.

Flat-design

Flat design uses 2D shapes and bright colours. The calculator image below is unlike the neumorphic calculator above, you cannot see where one button end and another begins and instead of being plain white or pale, simplistic colours, the calculator is bold (colourful) and eyecatching.
