Validating Fish Creek

Put Fish Creek through validator – no issues needed correcting.

Viewed Fish Creek website in Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge and Firefox.

Microsoft edge and Firefox had no issues when loading the web-page, however, Internet Explorer did not load the website correctly.

Internet explorer – can see that the navigation bar, main text and footer, are skewed to the left. Unlike below (for Firefox and Microsoft Edge). Unfortunately I was unable to solve this issue.

Firefox

Managed to get to level 16 of the game. Learned how to select specific parts of code but also realised why it is important to have classes/ identifiers, as it makes this process much easier.

Web Development Tools

Mobile version of the website from chrome browser. This tool is extremely useful as it allows the developer to view what the website will look like from various devises and code accordingly for maximum accessibility. Which is why I will be using it in the future.

For Google Chrome I would use “Resolution Test” when developing my website – Allows me to view my website under different resolutions (as devices will have differing resolutions) and ensure that the website will look good across all devices.

For Firefox the extension “BuiltWith” would be useful when developing a website, as it would enable the developer to view competitor websites, view what they’ve done right and what they have done wrong and improve those points in my on website.

Perception, Attention & Memory

·         Visual perception (attention and memory) – overall age of 38. However, the laptop trackpad was not as responsive. When trying to memorise the patterns of the balls, I found myself trying to trace shapes between each of them. Otherwise found my eyes roaming the screen in sections to see what was different. The only exercise where this didn’t happen was the coloured word exercise as I found that my brain would get distracted with reading the word. Which I mitigated by only allowing my eyes to focus on one spot.

·         Visual Memory – Overall score of 15400, level 11/20. It is possible that I could have done better, however the patterns were getting increasingly more difficult. Found myself employing the proximity gestalt principle but did not notice myself using the other gestalt principles.

The gestalt principles can be used in web design to make a website more visually intriguing or memorable, this can be especially useful when trying to design icons or imagery for a website and make it more memorable.

·         Testing attention and working memory – Correctly counted the number of passes as well as noticed the gorilla. However, this can be useful for website usability. If the user needs to click a button to proceed (for example) then the button could be highlighted or moving in some way. If the website would like to draw attention to certain aspects then this could be used.
